A few days ago Square Enix’s America and Europe CEO Phil Rogers talked about the new open approach the company is taking in regards to establishing a stronger relationship between the community and the games. When confusion struck the web on what’s next in line for the Hitman franchise, Square Enix immediately clarified this and announced that Io-Interactive is still working on the next Hitman for PC and next gen consoles.
Just a short while ago the Io-Interactive team released an open letter containing the first details on next gen’s Hitman game. It covers a few details about the game’s content and technicalities such as it being built on the backbone of the Glacier 2 engine and the world consisting the largest levels the series has ever seen. You can read the full open letter here.
Io-Interactive will be revealing more information further this year and promises to be in closer contact with the players. Keep your eyes peeled for more Hitman updates in the future.
There has been some confusion yesterday/today about Hitman, in terms of which game is in development and where. Many websites including IGN have been reporting that the next-gen Hitman has been cancelled.
However today, Square Enix sent us an official statement. According to them, we can stop worrying because the next-gen AAA Hitman game is still in development and will be released for next-gen consoles & PC.
“There’s a bit of confusion around the Hitman projects currently in development at Square Enix owned studios and so we wanted to take the time to clarify what each studio is working on to clear up some of this confusion. Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year.”

CONTRACTS is a new online mode which allows gamers to create and share their own custom hit challenges within the HITMAN: ABSOLUTION. Players will choose a level, targets, weapons and then set their own rules for completing the contract based on time, style and witnesses. There are no clumsy editors or complicated mechanics to learn; in CONTRACTS you simply play to create. As an asynchronous mode, CONTRACTS allows fans to compete against friends at any time, regardless of whether they are online. HITMAN: ABSOLUTION will also ship with many pre-set CONTRACTS, each designed by the very best assassins at IO Interactive.
HITMAN: ABSOLUTION is scheduled for global release on November 20, 2012 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
