This Is Where It Gets Dirty | Drakengard 3 Gameplay Details: Combat & Weapons

BG
Drakengard 3 uses a weapon change system, which allows you to change between various weapons during battle.

Players can now seamlessly switch between weapons in the middle of an attack and continue on the offensive. Furthermore, weapons can be changed on the fly to meet the demands of the battle at hand and turn the tide in your favor. Players can use weapons in tandem to pile on the hits and string a monster combo. Weapons can also be upgraded to increase their attack power.

sword
SWORDS

From forward strikes, to spinning attacks, and juggling enemies in the air, swords display a great versatility and variety of attacks. They are extremely easy to use with a good balance of attack range and speed. Swords make chaining combos easy and the blood spatter quickly fills the Blood Gauge.

spear
SPEARS

Spears are powerful weapons best used for forward attacks and charging enemies. Though the rate of attack lacks that of swords, each strike packs a mighty punch. Sword attacks that may be deflected by large shields stand no chance against these weapons with great reach.

chakram
CHAKRAM

Chakrams sport the greatest attack range of all weapons, making it easy to strike enemies from a distance or attacking large groups of enemies. Though generally lacking in strength, the unique motions of this weapon make it an ideal choice to confuse enemies when surrounded or in free-for-alls.

fist
FIST WEAPONS

Although having the shortest range of all weapons, melee gear yields the most hits of any weapon and the greatest speed, with which to overtake foes. Fist weapons make chaining combos a breeze with its many button mashing combos, and is unrivaled in one-on-one combat. This weapon struggles against large groups of enemies, especially when surrounded, so deciding on when to change weapons is vital to your survival.

Drakengard 3 hits stores in North America on 20th May. Europeans will be able to download the game from the PlayStation store on 21st May.

A gifted Intoner with superhuman battle skills and expert swordsmanship. She is open and uninhibited with men, yet violent and lazy by nature. She constantly quarrels with her overly serious sister, One. The flower blooming in her right eye prolongs her life and has given her a unique body.

one_screen_1
ONE

A fellow Intoner and Zero’s younger sister. She is intelligent, serious, and has a strong sense of justice—Zero’s polar opposite. It is out of her intelligence that she comes to question how the Intoners came into existence and why they possess such godly powers. She decided to overthrow the despotic rulers of the world who had oppressed the people and created a new peaceful world. She reigns over all the Intoners.

two_screen_2
TWO

The ruler of the Land of Sands and third Intoner sister. Her bright and cheerful personality allows her to befriend anyone, and she sets the tone for the Intoners. three_screen_1
THREE

The fourth of the sister Intoners, she rules over the Land of Forests and has a fan following amongst some of the soldiers under her command. Lazy and apathetic, she hardly cares for things not striking her interests, but shows obsessive tendencies towards anything of interest. She is innocent, yet stubborn and shows no interest in Zero whatsoever.

four_screen_1
FOUR

The fifth Intoner sister and ruler of the Land of Mountains. She is very straight-laced and listens carefully to what others have to say. But her superior air masks a distorted inferiority complex. five_screen_1
FIVE

The youngest Intoner and ruler of the Land of Seas. Extremely confident and greedy, she desires all that she sees, but quickly loses interest once she gets it. She purposefully uses risqué language during conversations and loves alluding to her nightly escapades. Her seemingly endless greed goes so far as to lust after her sister, Zero.

mikhail_screen_1
MIKHAIL

A member of the proud dragon race who travels alongside Zero. A supreme idealist, he thinks conflicts can be solved by words alone. But his idealistic talk annoys Zero to no ends, although he remains oblivious. He is amazingly powerful thanks to his dragon lineage, and has used his great powers to save Zero on more than one occasion. “Mikhail” is merely his current name, while he had another name prior to his reincarnation.

cent_screen_1
CENT
A narcissistic disciple who fights with twin swords. Though he possesses supreme confidence, he’s actually quite dumb. Every bit of trivia he reveals is wrong, and his mistaken information constantly annoys his companions.octa_screen_2
OCTA

An old-looking disciple who fights with special ring weapons, known as chakrams. Despite his appearance, he has a whimsical air about him and boasts a seemingly insatiable sexual desire. It is said that his pride and joy is the longest of all the disciples and he’s fine so long as there’s a hole nearby.

jiji
DECADUS

A well-muscled disciple who fights with his fists. He is well-mannered and a perfect gentleman around women and appears to be the most normal of the disciples. However, he is an extreme masochist who perceives any torment or adversity as a reward. He’s tried to conceal his masochistic tendencies, but everyone is well aware of his true colors.

dito_screen_1
DITO

A spear-wielding disciple with an intense cruel streak. He is extremely perceptive and sees through people’s guises quickly. However, he uses his sharp wit to harm others further. Listen to These Amazing Samples from Drakengard 3 Soundtrack

editor
This week I got a chance to listen to the music from Drakengard. The soundtrack is produced by Monaca that includes the composers, Keiichi Okabe, Keigo Hoashi, Kakeru Ishihama and Kuniyuki Takahashi. The game is set to be released in 2014 in Europe and North America but that didn’t stop me getting my hands on the soundtrack.

drakengard3banner2
And what happened once I started to listen to the music and heard most of the tracks? I was absolutely impressed by the soundtrack. That is quite funny since high quality and well-produced soundtracks are more than a standard to Square Enix who is known from having industry topping soundtracks for their games.

Still, Drakengard 3 managed to overcome my expectations and provide something totally different than I expected it to be. This soundtrack isn’t shamed to impress you – it’s here to kick you in the balls when you least expect that to happen.

drakengard3banner
I chose four different songs from the soundtrack – two songs from each disc. This way I want to show you the diverse side of Drakengard 3 soundtrack.

“Black Song” is my personal favorite from the soundtrack because of its beauty and the way how it incredibly blooms into a flower in the middle of the song. Eir Aoi’s beautiful vocals create a peaceful and pleasant feeling.

Next song is called “Lead Wishes / Egregori”. I choose it to represent the electro rock side of the soundtrack. This album has many great tracks which are bursting attitude.  The singer is YoRHa.

“Exhausted 3″ represents the Drakengard series well. The series contains fantasy and twisted yet peaceful music and this track is a great example of atmospheric mood of the game.

The last song I chose is called “The Rising Fool / Battlefield” which shows more the classic orchestra side of the record.

What’s Drakengard 3?

Drakengard 3 is an action role-playing game developed by Access Games and published by Square Enix exclusively for the PlayStation 3.  The game is set to be released in 2014 in North America and Europe.  Drakengard 3 is a prequel, so it doesn’t demand knowledge about the earlier parts of there series.

The Official Theme Song of Drakengard 3 “This Silence Is Mine”

The official theme song of Drakengard 3, “This Silence Is Mine”, was released as a single a few days ago. The beautiful and mysterious song is performed by Chihiro Onitsuka and composed and arranged by Keiichi Okabe.
