Final Fantasy XIV Patch Files Potentially Reveal Samurai for Stormblood

Is It Spider-Man? Blue Mage? Sam Raimi? Samurai?

With Final Fantasy XIV: The Far Edge of Fate (Patch 3.5) releasing today, Square Enix has prepared the game with new content, including dungeons, raids, relic quests and more. As always, dataminers are going through the game files in order to gather all new details about the soon-to-be live patch. Alongside the upcoming content, something else very interesting was found from the game’s job cutscene and quest section: “RDM” (Red Mage) and “SAM”(Samurai) have been included there alongside other game’s iconic jobs.

This could possibly end the long going debate whether which of new jobs will be added in the upcoming expansion, Stormblood, when it releases on June 20, 2017. During the FanFest in Japan, Final Fantasy XIV game director and producer Naoki Yoshida continued teasing a new job with his shirt – this time with a Spider-Man shirt. It started a speculation where the fans assumed that it would be a reference to Sam Raimi (thus Samurai) who directed the original Spider-Man trilogy. Other side of the community believed it could be a reference to Blue Mage – a job first introduced in Final Fantasy V. Blue Mages speciality is to learn enemy skills and use them in battles. However, this was long seen hard to implement in Final Fantasy XIV’s gameplay. In the light of this new evidence and facts, it seems very likely that the introduction of Samurai is happening soon! Or will it? Maybe!

You can expect more details coming next month at the European Final Fantasy XIV FanFest.

Players will also be able to dive underwater in select locations, even while riding flying mounts. Underwater areas will not only include new gathering locations, but also will provide an opportunity for NPC interaction.

New Beast Tribe and Primal: The Ananta, an all-female beast tribe, is the newest of the beast tribes to be introduced to the world of FFXIV. This ancient tribe resides in the mountains near Ala Mhigo and worships the primal Lakshmi. Known for their skill in spell and gemcraft, the Lamia will play a very important role in the Stormblood main scenario as their persecution by the Garlean Empire is revealed.

New High-Level Raid: The Bend of Time – Omega was announced as the high-level raid series for Stormblood. Omega has surfaced within the main scenario in the past, but this menace will soon appear in full force. The mystery behind the appearance of Omega and the significance of “The Bend of Time” will be unveiled through the story surrounding this raid.

New Alliance Raid: Two special guest creators were invited to assist with the design of the newly-announced alliance raid “Return to Ivalice”: Yasumi Matsuno (FINAL FANTASY XII / FINAL FANTASY TACTICS) will write the scenario surrounding the raid, while Keita Amemiya (Onimusha 2 / Shin Megami Tensei IV) will spearhead monster and boss design.
