Square Portal Editor-in-Chief and President Johnny is here to wish you all a “Happy New Year”! I’d like to thank you all for your continued support and love. It means so much to me!

I find it so hard to believe it’s already 2016 – where did last year go? For Square Portal, it was a year of rethinking what I want to do with the site in the future. Focus on Square Enix games? Focus on things I’m really passionate about? What’s the right way? What is too much for one person to cover?

Yes, Square Portal  is a one-man project which is a rarity when it comes to the biggest Square Enix games sites. Most of all, fully independent. Wish we could continue it that way in the future as well: perhaps with your support through services like Patreon and Kickstarter? This would allow me to focus entirely on the site and bring brand new content and experience to everyone – improving our community and taking it to the next level.

It was a year of personal reinvention as well: getting a real life job, moving to a new city, dealing with obligations, traveling around the world, feeling great happiness and sadness, and learning new things about myself. I got a chance to meet many game developers, including Yoshinori Kitase, Yoshida Naoki and Hideo Kojima. As starstruck as I were, they did help me with one realisation: they’re also just hard-working individuals following their dreams. It’s possible for everyone – you and I. This is why I can’t wait to show you the new direction later this year.

We will kick off 2016 moving towards the new era of Square Portal. I have been working hard for its release but good things always take time to create – especially when the team is just one person. Square Portal has always aimed to embrace most out of each individuality who participates in the project – whether he or she is a community member or an editor.

I promised that if Square Portal reaches over ten thousand followers on Twitter by end of the year, I’ll publish Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII cast artwork in glorious high quality – exclusively on Square Portal. And we did it! In addition to 4000×3000 resolution artwork, I created you two different wallpapers featuring our fashionista savior’s friends and family – and the goddess herself!
