Triple Triad Arrives for Smartphones

Today, Square Enix is releasing the official “Final Fantasy Portal” app in Japan. It’s meant to keep users updated with the latest Final Fantasy news, including music, merchandise and games. And if you are a huge fan of card games, we have some good news for you! It’s possible to play “Triple Triad” in the app as well.

Triple Triad is a card game from Final Fantasy VIII. In the mini game, two players face off against one another in different teams: blue and red. Each of them has five cards in a hand, and the player aims to capture the opponent’s cards by turning them into his color on a 3×3 grid. Triple Triad is also playable at Manderville Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy XIV.

You will need a (Japanese) Square Enix ID to use the app and play the mini game. Points earned from Triple Triad are tied to user’s account and they can be used to purchase in-app items. Square Enix hasn’t yet stated if the official app will be released in the West.
