The Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy May Be Coming To PlayStation 4

In the latest Game Watch interview, the Final Fantasy brand manager Shinji Hashimoto discusses about bringing the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy to PlayStation 4 similar to Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster. Hashimoto explains that the collection isn’t being planned yet, but it would be possible in the future. The only problem is that in order to so they should recruit new developers since most of the members from the original team has been moved into the Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XIV teams.

“The collection hasn’t been under consideration yet, but if we wanted to bring the Final Fantasy XIII saga to PlayStation 4, we would need to recruit a new team to do that. The size of the original Final Fantasy XIII team has been reduced due to developers moving to work on Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XIV. That’s why we would need to hire developers to do it  – maybe it would be a good option to be helped by some external studios in the same fashion as with Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster.”

Recently, Motomu Toriyama told Dengeki PlayStation that he is working on a new game. Could the smaller Final Fantasy XIII team be working on the same project as well? Let’s hope the questions will be answered at Jump Festa 2015.

  1. I would be pleased with a slightly updated version, perhaps using the high quality assets that are available in the PC version and an upgraded FPS. Though, it will most likely be a direct port as mentioned in the newer post where Hashimoto talked about bringing all titled to PS4 for the Chinese marketplace – thus making them available worldwide. Since ports etc. are outsourced, it won’t affect to their new games developments, but likely give them more funding.

So guess, it would be a win-win situation for the company and players who want to experience the series. This would give a chance for even younger generations to join our fanbase, which is always a good thing.

  2. I’m excited about this. I never got to enjoy it when it was first released. Had to focus on college and was way too broke lol
