Square Enix Revitalizes The Long Lost Title
Earlier this month, the official Japanese Romancing SaGa 2 Twitter made an unexpected announcement, revealing that Romancing SaGa 2 will be released in the West soon! What makes this announcement a great surprise is the fact that the SNES exclusive JRPG was never released outside Japan -where it launched on December 10, 1993. Now 23 years later, the remaster for iOS and Android is finally arriving in Europe and North America! Square Enix just released the English debut trailer, see it below.
It has been over 20 years since Kenji Ito made the original composing work for Romancing SaGa game. In 2014, Square Enix opened pre-orders for Romancing SaGa 1-3 Original Soundtrack -Remaster- albums. The first “Romancing Saga Original Soundtrack -Remaster-” album was released on June 18 and “Romancing SaGa 2 Original Soundtrack -Remaster-”a month later, on 16th July. Similar to Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster soundtrack, these albums contained newly arranged and remastered versions of the original music in higher quality.
The first Romancing SaGa was developed and published by Square (before merging with Enix) for the Super Famicom / SNES, in 1992 – with a sequel following next year. It was the fourth installment in the SaGa series. In 2005, Square Enix revealed and published the PlayStation 2 remake of the game, which was renamed as “Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song”. It was only available in Japan and North America. The original SNES version has been ported for smartphones and Wii. (Only in Japan)
The story events of the first Romancing SaGa were set in the fictional world of Mardias. It follow a story of eight heroes who started a journey across the world to prevent the resurrection of Saruin – an evil god from the ancient times. At the time, SaGa series was known for its modern and open design with the gameplay, story and world. For example, in Romancing Saga, players could experience the story events differently, as it was up to them, how they played through different story scenarios. Some of the events were only unlocked by completing certain tasks or talking to non-playable characters, which changed all players’ experiences slightly different. These elements seem to be really trendy amongst the bigger game productions nowadays.
More details about Romancing SaGa 2 iOS/Android coming soon!
