A Microsoft representative confirmed on Twitter that Microsoft will be publishing Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider instead of Square Enix. This doesn’t mean Square Enix will lose its rights to the IP, but it’s similar kind of deal what Nintendo did with Bravely Default – published and marketed it by themselves.
“Today’s confirmation that Square Enix has ceded publishing duties suggests that Rise of the Tomb Raider won’t see release on non-Microsoft hardware”, writes Gamasutra. Most likely both Uncharted 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider will be releasing in Holiday 2015, making them competing against each other, and of course, sell those new-generation consoles.

Scumbag Microsoft. In it for themselves rather than gamers
Without starting a console war here, I would like to say it’s not really “scumbag Microsoft”… What I mean by that is that the company made a deal similar to Sony who got Street Fighter V exclusivity for their console. It’s shame that the large fanbase of PS Tomb Raider fans seem to be missing this, but what can we do when business is business and money talks. I bet that Microsoft truly wants to make it their Uncharted 4 and even give their technical support to Crystal Dynamics / Square Enix to make the game compete against U4 in terms of graphics and gameplay – at least I hope so. It will be interesting Holiday 2015 because we may be seeing a giant clash of titans marketing their blockbuster adventure games.
“Non-Microsoft Hardware” So that means it’ll still come to PC, right?
Could be! For now, it seems it will be an Xbox exclusive because Microsoft is publishing it.
